(Darlington, South Carolina) – Today, the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA) released the following statement from President and CEO, Lewis F. Gossett, regarding the Darlington County School District’s participation in the SC Future Makers initiative.

“The Darlington School District has been at the forefront, for many years, in providing its students with innovative resources designed to enhance their education and future,” said Lewis Gossett, SCMA President and CEO. “Thanks to the district’s leadership, seniors of Mayo High School for Math, Science, and Technology began the process of kicking off implementation of the SC Future Makers initiative by creating profiles on the STEM Premier platform and learning about opportunities in the advanced manufacturing industry and more. We look forward to a long relationship with Darlington County School District schools and connecting opportunities with higher education and companies for their students.”

The Darlington County School District will offer the SC Future Makers program, which is powered by STEM Premier, to all high school students and 8th graders. As part of the program, students will be encouraged to create profiles on the STEM Premier platform, be exposed to career opportunities in advanced manufacturing and technology through company engagement that include facility tours, guest speakers, and sharing the stories of future opportunities within companies.

Created by the SCMA, SC Future Makers, powered by STEM Premier, seeks to expand the skilled workforce for advanced manufacturing and technical-related careers in the state. This public-private effort was developed in response to the growing workforce challenges facing manufacturers and related fields in recruiting skilled and talented associates. Through partnerships with South Carolina school districts, SC Future Makers is reaching students, parents, and educators with information on opportunities, rewarding careers and proper education pathways to earn skills necessary for a technical career.
